Understanding the mailbox indicator

Your mailbox has a size limit and if you allow it to approach this limit you might not receive all emails sent to you. An incoming email that would cause your mailbox to exceed its size limit will be returned to the sender. For example, imagine your mailbox size limit is 5 MB (megabytes) and you have used 4.2 MB of it. If you are then sent an email that is 1 MB, it will be returned to the sender.

The mailbox-usage indicator shows how much of your mailbox you have used.

When you have used 80 percent of your mailbox, the indicator changes colour to amber and the word AMBER is displayed. This indicates that you should reduce the size of your mailbox by deleting emails (especially those with attachments) from your folders, starting with the Deleted and Outbox folders.

When you have used 90 percent of your mailbox, the indicator changes colour to red and the word RED is displayed. A red warning indicates that emails sent to you may be returned to the sender and that you should delete emails from your folders as soon as possible.

If you fill your mailbox, emails sent to you will be returned to the sender. (However you will still be able to send emails).

If you are using Internet Explorer 5.0 or above, point at the mailbox-usage indicator with your mouse to see the amount of space used and the size of your mailbox.
